Another Tea Addicted Writer On The Loose!

I have been contemplating for a while now to do some tag posts. For one, I thought they would be kind of fun to participate in. For two, I thought they would be a way for people to get to know me a little better. So I did a search via Google and Tumblr. Looking around for various writing and book related tags. I’ve compiled a list and am going to be making my way through in between other posts coming up. This first one is the Reading Habits Tag. I found it on The Bibliophile Girl’s blog. I’m not sure where it originated, but that’s where I stumbled on it in my searches. So here we go!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

At home I mostly read in bed. It’s usually the last thing I do in the day before falling asleep, but sometimes when I am able to make extra reading time I sometimes just like to lounge in bed with a good book. There’s just something about allowing the body to be extra comfortable that makes it so much nicer to fall into the world of whatever you’re reading. I also really like sitting outside on the patio on a beautiful day. My loveseat is also a personal favorite spot.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Lately I’ve been much better about using actual bookmarks. However for the longest time my favorite thing to use was a tag that came on a bag I purchased from the Honest Company. It’s just a well-made tag that I still enjoy using. In the past (and sometimes present) though, I still admittedly sometimes grab a piece of paper or tissue even when in a pinch in needing to mark my spot.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I don’t like to, but I can just stop if I need to. However, I much prefer to do so at the very end of a page – that hopefully also doubles as the end of a sentence. If it carries over onto the next page chances are I might try to quickly read that page before actually stopping.

Do you eat or drink whilst reading?

I don’t like to eat while reading, I’m too afraid I’ll get something on the book. Ha! As far as drinks, I usually have at least water or tea nearby.

Multitasking: Music or TV whilst reading?

No. When I’m sitting down with the intention to read, I really prefer to focus all of my attention into the book I’m reading.

One book at a time or several?

I used to strictly be a one book at a time reader, but I’ve found a happy balance in reading multiple books at once. I usually bounce between two, but I’ve been able to manage three successfully. It just kind of depends on what kind of books I’m reading.

Reading at home or everywhere?

Oh that would be everywhere! While I don’t multitask with television or music while I read, being out in public with general noises around me don’t really disturb my ability to get lost in a good book.

Read out loud or silently in your head?

I mostly read silently, but sometimes I do find reading certain passages from a book out loud helpful.

Do you read ahead or skip pages?

I don’t skip pages, and I prefer not to read ahead. The most I do is glance ahead to see how many pages until the next chapter. This mostly occurs when I’m tired, but I want to finish the chapter and see how much longer I have to determine if I can make it.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

This totally depends on the book. Most of my paperbacks I don’t really mind earning a crease or two in my reading. I mean it shows book appreciation, right? Sometimes though I’ll get a book autographed, or a book that is just special to me for whatever reason and I’ll want to preserve it for as long as I can without too many cracks and creases.

Do you write in your books?

The only time I’m writing in a book is when it’s my own manuscript and I’m giving notes to myself. If I’m reading a book and there is a quote or something I really like, I will usually write it down somewhere that I can be reminded of it often.

Well that is all the questions for this tag! I’m going to tag all the readers out there. If you do (or have done) this tag please share your links below with me in the comments. I’d love to see your answers. Also, if there are writing or book related tags you would like to see me do in the future, please feel free to send in your suggestions!

XOXO, Jane

Nice to meet you Jane. Hope to get to know you better. I confess I do write in my books but only when it’s my own manuscript! And I glance ahead as well… I’m such a curious person and rebel.

    1. Nice to meet you too! I hope to get to know you as well. 🙂 I can’t bring myself to make annotations in another person’s work. That’s what post-it notes are for. Ha! Yay for the rebels who glance ahead. 😉

My dear, you’ve GOT to dog-ear the pages. A book won’t respect you if you don’t show it who’s boss…

    1. Ahhh! 😮 What!? Oh no… 😉 …but, but my books respect me just fine simply for reading them in their entirety. 😂 LOL! ❤❤❤❤
