Word Count Wednesday #02

We are at the halfway point of week two for Camp NaNoWriMo already! Can you believe how quickly camp is passing us by? I feel like I had this same sentiment back in April, but I am definitely more relaxed about it this time around. I think for me and my present situation, setting an insanely low goal for myself and having already achieved that has definitely helped. However, I am not finished with the brand new outline for Vini’s Story, thus it’s time to do another word count check in post.

At this present moment I have 3,156 words out of my 2,000 word count goal.

Clearly I haven’t made much progress in the past week, but a little is better than nothing. I would rather slowly approach this outline and really make sure it’s solid than half-ass my way through it in a rush to pick up a higher word count. Plus, again like a broken record, let me state that my Untitled Horror Project really is supposed to be taking precedence this month. There will be an update on that project coming soon though.

So staying on the topic of Vini’s Story, I have to say that I am actually very pleased with my current direction. I have two full drafts of this book done already. I shared what I had of what would have been draft three on the site recently (Chapter One & Chapter Two). That was so exciting and nerve wrecking to do. I got some great feedback on it though and I am so grateful to all who have read through those chapters. It makes me just all the more anxious to get to a point where I am able to share more of Vini and her story.

Earlier I was thinking about what an amazing process and journey I’ve had with Vini. Okay, I know that sounds crazy – but this character has basically been with me since 2009. Maybe someday I will recount how Vini really came to be for me as a character in my role playing days, but I will admit she is one of my absolute favorite characters that I created during those years. I loved her from the start. I think that’s why I am so passionate about writing her story out and making sure I do it correctly. I obviously had to change some things for the simple fact that I don’t want to infringe upon another’s creativity, but I still feel very strongly and positively that I am staying true to my character as she tells her life story.

Whether you are involved in camp or not, if you’re working on something – how is it going? Feel free to share in the comments below!

XOXO, Jane

  1. My jaw dropped today when I checked in on my cabin and it is announcing that validation begins in 8 days! Dang, this month is flying by. Congrats on reaching your goal. I am about halfway to my goal. I am only counting words for Reflected Echo though, which means I have a lot more to go even though the draft should be wrapping up in a few more chapters (I think 4 at the most).

    1. It really is! I was at my day job this morning like, “how is it the 11th already?!?” XD Thank you so much! 🙂 Congrats on being about halfway through to your goal! It’s definitely a challenge to balance multiple projects, but you can do it!! ❤ ❤ ❤
