Life Stuff & NaNoWriMo

I would first like to apologize for my sudden disappearance from the blogosphere, as well as my sparse postings on social media. My mom has had a lot of serious health issues over the past few months and honestly, last month when I found myself bringing her back to the hospital I just needed to unplug from most online things. I did my best to keep up with my word count for NaNoWriMo (though for quite a bit I had fallen quite behind schedule), but other than that I really was just not worried about focusing extra attention on social media. My focus has been mostly between family and work (both in the day job sense, as well as my writing).

Back at the end of September, through the first part of October my mom was in the hospital originally for three weeks. For her privacy, I’m not going to divulge into what’s all been going on with her. I will say though, that it was a lot, it was extremely serious, and we almost lost her. In fact, we had doctors saying had we waited even just another 48 hours to a week from when we brought her in – there is a high chance we would have.

From that visit we had a couple of trips back to the emergency room, due to alarming symptoms. The second of those two ER visits was at the beginning of November when she was diagnosed with pneumonia on top of everything else she’s been dealing with. Fortunately that was treatable and has since vanished from her system, however when I found myself bringing her back in again the week of Thanksgiving, I just needed to unplug. It was actually technically the wee hours of Friday morning I brought her in, but her symptoms and health were clearly not good all week. I ran out of pre-scheduled posts on here and quite frankly I just needed to not worry about it. I posted on my Facebook page an apology for breaking my streak and to share that I was taking the rest of the week off.

Well, that week turned into until today. This wasn’t my intention to take so much time away from blogging or getting more active on social media. I just needed to focus as much time on family (specifically my mom) as possible. Now if you follow me on Twitter and Instagram, then you know despite everything else going on I was able to succeed in reaching the 50,000 word count goal by Day 29 of NaNoWriMo.

My NaNo experience was not what I had hoped this year. I had hoped to attend the regional kickoff party again, and well that was not feasible for me. I thought to myself though that I would participate in the chat room, the forums (more than I did), and even attend an actual in person write-in. None of those things really happened. I didn’t go once into the regional chat room, nor did I attend a single write-in. Heck I didn’t even do a word sprint on twitter this year. I kind of posted a couple of times in the forums, but that was about it. Otherwise I felt kind of like a recluse on the NaNo-side. Here’s hoping next year goes better on the WriMo interaction front!

For now though, I do want to apologize again for my absence and thank you for sticking around! I’d also like to welcome any new followers. I think I have managed to follow everyone back…

I am going to be doing my best to try and be more active on here once again. I’d love to resume my posting schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays again. However, at this precise moment I would like to point out my mom is still in the hospital. She’s not completely out of the woods with a recent diagnosis issue, but is making progress. So while I’ll certainly eventually get back to my 3 posts a week routine, I ask that you please understand if I miss a day or two along the way right now.

Thank you all for being so patient and kind!

XOXO, Jane
